Tarati — Abstract Strategy Board Game

Tarati is an abstract strategy board game created by George Spencer-Brown, the mathematician and author of Laws of Form. It applies his calculus of distinctions to gameplay: a minimalist structure with deep strategic consequence. Play free online at tarati.tech — in your browser, on Android or on Desktop.

How to play

Each player starts with four Cobs on their home base and moves along the edges of a board of 23 vertices arranged in concentric zones. A piece moves to an adjacent free vertex and flips every eligible enemy piece connected to it — but only enemies it approaches from outside (the pre-adjacency rule). A Cob that reaches the opponent's base is promoted to a Rok, which moves freely in any direction. You win by capturing the last enemy piece in a single move (Mit) or leaving the opponent with no legal move (Stalemit).
